I'm going to post events having to do with artists working for social change in the LA area. I'll also plug my friends shows and anything else I find interesting.

Art Behind Bars

Dear friends,

We thought you might be interested to know what Margie's been up to since Midnight Special closed. When last we saw her she was putting on a show at the bookstore called "Art Behind Bars," drawings and writings by prisoners incarcerated at the SHU in Pelican Bay. She has continued putting on these shows in San Francisco, Eureka, and now Highland Park. Here's the info:

August 12-October 12, 2006
@ Jackie Goldberg's office
106 N. Ave 56 @ Figueroa
(take the Gold Line to Ave 57 Highland Park station)
(323) 258-0450

The opening reception will be on Saturday, August 12 from 6-9 pm, and will be part of NELAart's Second Saturday Gallery Night (kind of like an "art walk" where you can walk around to see different art exhibits).

Please stop by and say "hi." And if you can't make it to the reception, then please go out to Jackie's office at your convenience and see the show. Even if you saw it at Midnight Special, you still might want to take a look -- different and more drawings will be exhibited.

Looking forward to seeing you,
Lorraine Suzuki and Margie Ghiz
